About me

GET TO KNOW ME

I'm Sigrid,

your Shibari instructor

My rope journey started in my early twenties when I stumbled upon a series of photographs by the renowned Japanese artist Nobuyoshi Araki. I had, of course, heard of bondage before, but never had I seen it rendered with such tenderness, such raw artistry.

I grew up in a small village in eastern Belgium, in a home where silence carried more weight than desire, and where art that touched the body was something to be hidden. The world of rope became my secret language. I took my first classes quietly, in shadowed corners of my life, and practiced only on myself: alone, unseen, bound not by rope but by secrecy.

The years that followed brought both grace and disillusionment. I met teachers who spoke as prophets but taught little, and others who found offense in a woman rigging. At times, the noise and judgement nearly made me stop. Yet something wordless kept me moving forward: the intimate beauty of binding, the quiet dialogue between touch and trust.

In time, my hands found their own rhythm, my ropes their own voice. And in 2022, more than a decade after those first hesitant knots, I stood before others for the first time. Not as a student in hiding, but as a teacher, sharing the art that once felt forbidden.

As a teacher I strive to be the person I needed when I began my own journey. This is why I devote the vast majority of class time to tying, rather than filling the room with stories meant only to serve my own ego.

I teach in small groups of no more than eight, so that each person receives the attention and guidance they need to tie with confidence and awareness.

Respect is the foundation of every class I teach. Subspace is a place of trust and care. I welcome all who enter , regardless of gender, background or orientation. Warmth, openness and acceptance are not just promises here; they are principles.

My doors are open to anyone who wishes to learn the art of Shibari as an art of connection: an interplay of safety, (dis)comfort and aesthetics. If you feel drawn to learn, but questions linger, don't hesitate to get in touch.

A private experience in rope

I offer private sessions for those who wish to experience what it means to be held in rope.

My signature rigging style resonates with the philosophy of Aibunawa: rope is not a tool of domination or endurance, but a language of connection. I use it to create presence, to exchange energy, to build a quiet dialogue between bodies. The intention is not to induce helplessness or pain, but to explore trust, sensation, and the subtle shift that happens when you allow yourself to be guided.

In being tied, you are not diminished. You are invited to soften, to surrender into structure, and perhaps discover that restraint can feel like release.

If this resonates with you, send me a message.
